Percy Tank Engine

Hello :-) been awhile isn't it?

Anyway, I made my son a Halloween costume yesterday afternoon. My son likes Thomas and Friends stuff. Last year he wore Thomas the train costume, so this year I made him Percy the train costume. I was gonna buy him another costume but it cost a bit expensive and he will just wear for one day. Anyway, I decided to make him one. Is not as good as the already made one, but he won't notice the difference... it is still Percy the train.
Here it is... it took me 1 1/2 to finish

Spring Maternity Dress

Greetings!!!
Last night after my kids went to bed, I decided to make my self a nice comfortable maternity dress. I wasn't sure how to start it, but I remember that I bought some remnant fabric from Walmart and it was measured 1 2/3 yards. I cut 3 inches for straps and 4 inches across for belt and just sew it. This is what I came up with.
it was very comfortable and I didn't have to worry of any elastic on my big belly.

Tote and make-up pouch

I made these items this after for GJ to give it to his teacher next week. This particular one has lining inside.
This one doesn't have lining inside. Yeah, I made with the same fabric. I got the fabric from the remnant cart at Walmart and I paid $1.75. Cheap is good!
Make-up pouch made from the same fabric :-). My first time to make one since I don't know how to put on a zipper. My first trial wasn't so bad at all!

All of these items cost me probably $4.00 not bad at all. And it all made from my heart!

Add ruffles to Maternity dress

I have this dress from awhile ago. I think my sister-in-law gave it to me with bunch of other clothes that she collected from her friends ( I think) :-). Anyway, I wore this skirt for a long time even  and just last Sunday when I sewing other stuff, I decided to add ruffles on the neckline of my maternity dress.
It was also quite long that when I sit it always reach the floor and when I get up I always stepped on the bottom of my skirt. SO I chopped it off a quite a bit. I love the outcome and even my husband said that it was nicer now. I add belt so that it will look totally different, and it did!

Summer dress

I made this dress couple weeks ago. I made my own pattern,  and I just adjust some of the parts as I go along. The upper sleeves is not perfect at all, but I think if I do more I'll do better in the long run. I intended to let my daughter wear this summer but it was quite too big for her. I have problem taking measurements and following those measurements when I'm cutting the fabric. I normally add extra fabric for the hem , then later it screw me up when I sewing it. Anyway, here is the dress.
What do you think?

Little girl's dress

My first ever made child dress!

I finally did it! I've been wanting to make a dress for my daughter for a long time, and I just finally done it! But first I have to check some websites with tutorials on how to make child dresses. You wouldn't believe that there are more people who would spend their time to teach you how to sew. One of them, is the make it & love it. I just love her tutorials. She also made a blessing dress for her daughter ...love it love it! I hope I can make one similar to that someday!

Little girl skirt

Tonight, around nine o'clock I didn't hear any noises around the house. I locked-up my self in the study room and let my husband takes care my kids. Well, hubby had a good sense of taking care the kids :-) they put them in bed. Well, normally between 8 pm to 9pm my kids are saying " night night".

Anyway, since my are all in bed, I feel bored. So I decided to take all my scrap fabric and laces laid it on the floor and stared at it for 15 minutes think of what to do with it. Then I finally came up with making a new skirt for my little daughter. I read some blog that have tutorials for making skirts from this blog . It was very easy to follow. So, here is my finished product...

Skirt To little girl's dress

My skirt

This was my skirt way back then. After couple pregnancy, I gained few pounds that more of my clothing weren't fit me anymore. Since I have a limited capacity in my closet, I had to do something useful to all my old clothes. One of them is this skirt. I turned this skirt into my little girl's dress. Here it is...

Thrift Store Find & tutorials

I like going to the thrift store. Sometimes I just go there just to look around or if I see some good stuff I buy it. Sometimes you can find unused item for a very low price compare to buying a brand new which will cost me a ton of money.
Anyway, this week I went to the thrift store agai,n and I found some name brand girls dress for less than $3 each and an overall for my 5 year old boy for a dollar (no picture).

 blue adult hat for $1
KC's hat $1 and a light green summer dress size 3T for $1.99
I couldn't make a dress like this for $2, so I think it's worth it!
Skirt for $1.00. I can't wear this right now since my belly is quite big :-).

FUN Part! Crafty :-)

My blue adult hat was kinda boring, so I bought a flower bush from Walmart for 94cents. I cut off the flower steam and glued the flower and the left together and glue it on the front part of the hat. So it look like this
what do you think?
Also for my blue skirt, I modified it too :-)

From a skirt to a simple maternity dress tutorials
I love it! more room for my big belly. Plus the hat was matched to my dress.
I don't think I am the first one who make like this. I've been reading crafters blogs for months now and also follow them. They have so many great ideas how to make dresses and etc. Its just blow my mind that I want to make some for myself or for my family. Anyhow, here is how I did my skirt to maternity dress.
This skirt has a wide bottom, so it is just perfect for my big belly. It was quite long too from waist to my ankle. You don't have to do anything to the bottom part.
Next, I took my sleeveless shirt and trace the arm circle as my pattern. Place it from the waist line of the skirt and trace the arm circle and chop it off. For the neckline, I just folded the sleeveless shirt and get the length of my shirt and apply it to the skirt and same thing you cut it off the way you like it. round neckline or V-shape what work bet for you.
For this project I used 1" bias. I have to make the bias though from scratch. But I think 1/2"bias will look much better. Oh well, my first project for my self :-) more trial-and -error.
1" bias
Then pin the 1'bias around the arm circle and the neckline. Then sew it! Sew the shoulder part together and YOU ARE DONE! That's easy!
Thanks for dropping by!
